Contributor´s Manual

Before embracing the task of collaborating with Andeshandbook, it is very important that you read the following guide. A more complete document about how information published in Andeshandbook should be written can be found in Manual de estilo.

Ethic Code for the Collaborator

1.- The information added by the collaborator must be correct and as complete as posible

Correctness
False descriptions are to be considered a serious fault. They can lead a mountaineer to err, with terrible consequences, even more if she/he is a beginner. Its preferable not to have information than to have a false one, or with errors. Do not add information which you are not sure of. Inform yourself with others if there are any doubts.

Completeness
Incomplete information can also be dangerous when you go out mountaneering. It creates the deceitful sensation of being well informed, and can directly lead the climber to err with dreadful consequences.

2.- Andeshandbook musn´t be used for personal propaganda or the loss of prestige of others

The purpose of Andeshandbook isn´t that of distinguishing or diminishing anybody. If anyone deserves recognition, may time and his deeds speak for him. We don´t wish to stop meritorius deeds from being recognized, but lets avoid judging other people in our contributions. The editorial staff won´t publish any extract with the intent of running down someone else.

3.- Every collaborator must make an effort to add information of the best quality and objectivity possible.

Andeshandbook is for all climbers and due to all of them. Because everyone expects finding high quality material every collaborator should collaborate in the same way. Good redaction, descriptive pictures, relevant anecdotes, hopefully as much information as possible, and of the best quality. On the other hand, please pay special attention to objectivity.

Recomendations

  • To add information about a route or a mountain to Andeshandbook takes time. We recommend you to gather all the information and write it on an separate file. Once you have the descriptions already written, you will be able to add them to Andeshandbook very easily.

  • Pictures must be smaller than 70 KBytes. The way how to do it is described in "How to use Photoshop”.

  • We recommed you to read descriptions already published in Andeshandbook. It will give you an idea of their rigorousity and the details they consider.

  • If the presentation of a mountain is a difficult task, we suggest you to contact us; we give special support to this kind of problems.

  • Do not use photos which belong to institutions or individuals without obtaining from them its/his/her permission.

  • VERY IMPORTANT: we will not accept descriptions of routes which were not completely climbed by the collaborator. The argument: there were only 5 meters left is not valid; only he who completed the ascent knows!

  • Please take care of redaction; editors' main task is to check technical details in the descriptions and to validate them, not to re-write them because of redaction flaws.

  • We sugest brief and precise descriptions, based on short and clear sentences.

  • If you consider some existing descriptions in Andeshandbook don’t follow some of the aforementioned recommendations, please contact us.
